About

  1. Vert Ridge is the region; its capital is Bleak Peak. A mountain town on the last ridge above a frozen harbor: switchback streets, a ski lift, the sea below. Stone mountain chalets, and people who are gruff on the surface and deeply hospitable. It is known for its night lantern festivals and an old weather station that names each blizzard. Storms are treated like neighbors. Part of Halfpipe World. Team: the Blizzards (hockey).

Planned mechanics

  1. Weather station. Restoring it is a town request. Afterward the Herald runs a daily forecast, the news banner announces weather changes, and major storms get names.
  2. Lantern festival. The last day of every month, at night. Light lanterns along the route, and lit lanterns become decor for your plaza and pipe.
  3. Street hockey. Talk to Zeke at the Skate Lodge. Played right on the town street (no separate screen): one screen wide, a goal at each edge; townsfolk step back to the fence to watch and the town keeps going. Pick 1v1 or 2v2 from the host's talk panel; a small score chip shows score, clock and controls, Esc leaves. 1v1 or 2v2; AI kids fill every slot but yours. 2:00 clock, then the score stands (ties stay ties). Tap E to pass, hold E to shoot, E on defence to steal / tackle, Space to jump. You play as your own rider against guild kids; a goal shot mid-hop or as a one-timer off a pass counts for 2. Ice skates in winter, inline skates the rest of the year. (Free skate, figure skating, goalies and sudden death were removed in 1.19.)

Nearby: Olive Nook

  1. An Arctic ice-fishing village in bright polar daylight, with an aurora night. You fish through holes in the ice from huts. People: Gwen (fox, bait and tackle), Harvey (seal, ice-hut rentals), Angus (bison, smokehouse), Emil (owl, ice safety), Osar (puffin, cafe and chowder) and Prancer (reindeer, sled courier). Kids: Acadia, Emery, Moriah and Izzie.

Nearby: Tidebridge

  1. A tidal harbor town, home of the Tidebreakers (hockey), reached by bus from Bleak Peak once you have ridden the Bleak Peak route. Weathered timber, grey stone and slate roofs; in winter the whole town is snowed in.
  2. Places. Ferry Dock, Almanac Press, Bridge Keeper's Tower, Toll Booth and Tide Mill.
  3. The drawbridge gap. Past Hollis's tower the street breaks for the harbor channel. Hop it with Space at speed to reach the far side; miss and you drop into the water and climb out where you came from. In winter the channel is iced over, but it still has to be jumped.
  4. Tide pools. Two pools by the Ferry Dock. Press E to search one; each gives one find a day.
  5. Food. Bertie sells fish and chips, which makes friendship count double for 15 minutes.
  6. Errands. Marlowe sends the week's tide tables up to Paul at the weather station in Bleak Peak.
  7. People. Hollis (heron, bridge keeper), Marlowe (seagull, almanac writer), Chet (woodchuck, pier carpenter), Bertie (sea lion, ferry captain), Nipper (crab, toll collector) and Shelby (hermit crab, tide pool curator). Kids: Tobin, Caspian, Nell and Rocco.
