Who she is

  1. Alma is a Mosswood kid. She wants the stories on ordinary things saved before they disappear.
  2. She has a hard time letting an object, or a moment, end. She can love a story that everyone else has already let go.
  3. She labels what she rescues with where she found it, and with what she imagines happened to it.

Friendship

  1. Early. She asks you to bring back something you found, not something you bought.

  1. When the owner of something she has been keeping turns up, she hesitates before giving it back.

  1. She puts out a shelf where things can be borrowed, claimed, changed, or passed on. A story can keep going without her holding it.

People she knows

  1. Miso sends lost things her way from the laundromat, and also nudges her to let some of them go. Carlos brings her objects and envelopes that never found an address. Jace restores some of her finds, and he will argue that not every dent needs to stay.

Where she stands

  1. In the plaza in spring, autumn, and winter, when it is clear, fog, drizzle, or snow, and it is day. At the Drive-In she stands off to the side.
