Mei

Who she is

1. Mei is a Cidertown kid. She wants people to question rules that exist only because nobody asked.
2. She can oppose a thing on reflex, and let the resistance make the decision for her.
3. She keeps a notebook titled Who Decided? — which is also her journalism. She works at the Halfpipe Herald for Gary, who makes her back things up with evidence before anything goes in.

Friendship

1. Early. She points out rules that do not earn their keep, and she wants you to cause a little harmless trouble.

People she knows

1. Gary is now her employer at the Herald and likes her questions; he makes her bring evidence. Bodie is the authority she most enjoys bothering, and he sometimes has a point. Pom appreciates the skepticism, and will not count hating rules, by itself, as a reason.

Where she stands

1. In the plaza in spring, summer, and autumn, when it is clear, rain, storm, or wind, and it is day or night. At the Drive-In she stands off to the side.
