Who he is

  1. Hiro is an Old Falls kid. He wants the fastest, cleanest line he can find.
  2. He can treat a different line as a waste, and forget that other riders want other things.
  3. He can tell worn bearings by the sound.
  4. He works at the Lost Astronaut Café. The name is the main reason. He is obsessed with alien and extraterrestrial phenomena, and keeps route notes with an unexplained column that is the only one he has stopped trying to optimize.

Friendship

  1. Early. He pushes you toward a personal best.
SpoilerMiddle friendship
  1. A slower approach of yours works better for a different goal. He starts measuring more than speed.
SpoilerLate friendship
  1. He will recommend more than one line: fastest, smoothest, easiest, or weirdest. The good line is the one that fits the rider.

People he knows

  1. Moby loves a measurable test, and he reminds Hiro that a number is an observation. Welly lets him try gear. Brigid loves equipment too, and frustrates him by changing too many things at once. Romulus knows something — Hiro asks him direct questions about the full moon and takes every answer seriously as data.
SpoilerFriendship quests
  1. He may ask you to set a new personal best.
  2. He may ask you to score a combo of twelve in Slalom.
  3. He may ask you to win one Slalom heat.

Where he stands

  1. In the plaza in summer, autumn, and winter, when it is clear, wind, or snow, and it is day. On the Long Street he skates past. Occasionally spotted near the Drive-In on full moon nights.
